UPDATE: Police Locate 10-Year-Old Missing Girl

Police were searching Monday for a 10-year-old who failed to meet her mother at their usual meeting spot near Cole Canyon Elementary School.

UPDATE 4:10 p.m. March 12: Police have located a 10-year-old whose mother had reported her missing Monday after the girl did not come to their regular meeting spot after school.

The girl, who attends Cole Canyon Elementary, was located with her father at about 4 p.m. at Cal Oaks 17 (formerly the Movie Experience), said Murrieta police Sgt. Jay Froboese.

They were watching a movie and had turned their cellphones off, Froboese told Patch.

"We got it all sorted out," Froboese said.

The mother had called police when her daughter was not there to meet her after school at a park near Cole Canyon Elementary.

Monday was an early-out day for elementary students in Murrieta.

Police pinged the father's cellphone number and found his truck in the movie theater parking lot.

UPDATE 3:35 p.m. March 12: Police confirmed they were looking for a 10-year-old girl reported missing by her mother Monday afternoon.

Murrieta police Sgt. Jay Froboese said they believed the girl may have been picked up by her father, and were pinging his cell phone.

He said the pings were coming back in an area near the Murrieta Police Station on Jefferson Avenue, and that they believed the girl and her father may be in the vicinity.

"I would expect a resolution here shortly," Froboese said.

There were no custody issues, he said.

Monday was an early-out day for elementary students in Murrieta.

A 10-year-old girl went missing from a park after school today.

The child, named "Samantha," was reported missing at 2:45 p.m. when the mother went to pick her up from Cole Canyon Park after she got out of class at in Murrieta, according to unconfirmed police reports.

The child was nowhere to be found, and police were scouring the area as of publication time.

She has dark blonde hair and green eyes. A clothing description was unavailable because her father dropped her off, according to the reports.

The child goes to the park after school regularly to be picked up by her mother, according to the reports.

Anybody with any information on the location of the child should call the Murrieta Police Department at 951-696-3615.
