Woman to Pay Restitution for False Kidnapping Report

Christina Diana Vasquez, 19, was ordered to pay restitution and do community service as part of her sentence for making up a kidnapping and assault in Old Town.

A 19-year-old Murrieta woman will pay restitution and perform community service as part of her sentence for fabricating her own kidnapping.

Christina Diana Vasquez appeared in court April 26, where she pleaded guilty to filing a false police report in the Jan. 7 made-up kidnapping and assault that she said happened in Old Town Temecula.

Vasquez flagged down a jogger in Old Town Temecula the morning of Jan. 7, according to authorities, claiming she had been physically assaulted by two men who had taken her against her will as she walked home from work in Murrieta the day before.

Her family had reported her missing just hours before she turned up in the field.

She later confessed to Murrieta police she made up the story to spend time with her boyfriend in Orange County, authorities said at the time.

Vasquez "lied to police, emergency medical personnel, hospital staff and wasted medical and law enforcement resources," said Murrieta police Sgt. Phil Gomez,

Vasquez was ordered to pay restitution as well as serve 45 days in the sheriff's work release program, three years of probation and 40 hours of community service, court records show.

The amount of restitution was to be determined by the probation department, according to John Hall, spokesperson for the Riverside County District Attorney's Office, which in March
