Johns was wearing a helmet when he crossed over into the opposing lane of traffic, collided with a pick-up truck, and was thrown from his motorcycle, according to the coroner's report.
The crash occurred on Highway 79, approximately 1 mile south of Dripping Springs Campground, in unincorporated Riverside County, the coroner's report read.
According to a report from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson, there was a total of three vehicles involved in the crash. Johns died at the scene and two people were taken by ambulance to be treated for minor injuries, according to the report.
The collision caused a small vegetation blaze that was quickly doused by 11:30 p.m., according to Hendrickson's report.
As of 12:07 a.m. Saturday, California Highway Patrol issued a Sigalert for Highway 79 that closed the road for several hours.
