Deputies Arrest Suspect in Temecula Shooting

The suspect in the Sept. 14 incident was located in Menifee. The victim, left wounded at Pechanga, has since recovered.

Sheriff's investigators arrested a man in Menifee for his alleged connection with a Temecula shooting last month, a sergeant said today.

Detectives identified Deric Torrez Martinez, 31, of Riverside, as a suspect in the Sept. 14 shooting in Temecula that left a man with a gunshot wound. was left at Pechanga Casino to find medical help. He has since recovered, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Kevin McDonald said.

The actual shooting took place  inside a parking lot at a housing complex on Sunflower Way at Pepper Ridge, authorities have said. A friend brought then brought him to the casino.

An arrest warrant was issued for Torrez and he was found at an undisclosed location in Menifee. He was later arrested Friday for suspicion of attempted murder, McDonald said.

Sheriff's investigators expect to recommend the filing of more charges against Torrez since he had narcotics on him during his arrest, McDonald said.
