A homeless man was hospitalized today with critical injuries that authorities believe were inflicted during a mountain lion attack in an encampment in Perris, according to a published report.

Dan Sforza, assistant chief of the Southern Enforcement District for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the Riverside Press-Enterprise the man's injuries were consistent with a mountain lion attack.

The injured man could not tell investigators what attacked him, Sforza told the newspaper.

The man is expected to survive, according to the Press-Enterprise report.
