Driver Killed After Vehicle Plunges Off Highway 79

The vehicle, which unconfirmed reports say was a Toyota Tacoma, went off the side of the road and landed about 100 feet down an embankment.

A driver whose vehicle plunged off Highway 79 early Wednesday morning was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities are reporting.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department at 12:15 a.m., just east of Sage Road in Aguanga, according to a report from Cal Fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

As of 3:16 a.m., crews were still working on the scene.

The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

There were no reports of additional injuries and CHP has not reported a road closure as of press time.
