He appeared in court today as witness testified against him during a hearing that would decide whether he would stand trial, according to court records.

He had about a half-dozen types of prescription drugs in his system at the time of the crash, though only hydrocodone -- a powerful opiate used to kill pain -- was in great quantities, according to the Californian.

Five times the amount used for legitimate treatment was in his blood, the witness testified.

"That is a level above the therapeutic level and would be considered an abuse level," said Ola Bawardi, an expert witness, according to the Californian.

At the end of the hearing, Judge Angel Bermudez decided Scholes would stand trial for second-degree murder.
