Family Of Fallen Temecula Firefighter Getting Support From Comrades

Christopher Douglas, a 41-year-old Temecula resident, served as a fire apparatus engineer/paramedic and he was based at Station 35 in Thousand Palms.

Firefighters at Palm Desert Station 71 are selling T-shirts to support the family of Cal Fire Engineer Chris Douglas of Temecula, who was killed while on duty nine weeks ago on Friday July 5, 2013.

On the front and back of each shirt is a logo designed by one of Douglas' co-workers at Station 71. The logo features a guitar and surfboards, representing things Douglas loved: music and waves.

Douglas' co-workers declined to give their names in connection with the fundraiser because they don't want any credit for what they're doing.

"This is just something we decided to do," one of them said Thursday Sept. 5. "We don't want any credit. We're just trying to help somebody out. The fire service is a family. This is about trying to help a brother's family out now that he's gone."

Douglas, a 41-year-old Temecula resident, served as a fire apparatus engineer/paramedic and he was based at Station 35 in Thousand Palms. He was responding to a traffic collision July 5 when he was struck by a full size pick-up truck and fatally injured on an entry ramp to eastbound Interstate 10 east of Monterey Avenue, coroner's personnel said.

His survivors include his wife Amy, their 2-year-old son Samuel, and another baby on the way. A Temecula Patch report on his memorial service is here:
