TEMECULA, CA -- The father of a 15-year-old girl accused in connection with an alleged baseball bat beating in a park has also been implicated.
David Ray Mills, 35, of Temecula has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism in the Jan. 13 attack, court records show. Mills is charged alongside Andre Dickerson Jr., 20, also of Temecula.
Dickerson and the teen girl were arrested Jan. 18 at the girl’s residence following an initial investigation.
An arrest warrant approved Jan. 31 for Mills breaks down the events that led up to the alleged beating at Kent Hintergardt Memorial Park that left a 20-year-old man seriously injured.
Mills, Dickerson and the girl allegedly conspired to send a text message at about 10 p.m. Jan. 13, inviting the victim to the park. This occurred after the girl told them earlier in the day the victim had raped her twice in November 2012, Riverside County sheriff’s Investigator David Gorlicki wrote. The girl told investigators she drank vodka prior to the alleged rapes, that she was “passed out” and that both incidents were “against her will.”
The girl, a female friend of hers, and Mills and Dickerson walked to the park to meet the victim, who showed up at about 10:30 p.m., driving his mother’s minivan, Gorlicki wrote.
The girls summoned the victim to the restroom area, and asked him to wait as they used the restroom, Gorlicki wrote.
At the prompting of the girl, Dickerson, who had been hiding nearby, began assaulting the victim with a wooden baseball bat.
The bat was brought by the girl to the park, Gorlicki wrote.
The victim told police he was hit approximately 10 to 15 times with the bat before Dickerson stopped and began smashing the windows of his mother’s car.
The beaten victim drove home, where his mother found him sitting in the driveway. He was treated a short time later at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta for injuries that included five head lacerations, a torn left eardrum, a knocked-out tooth, a broken shoulder and a broken hand, according to the warrant statement.
In an interview on Jan. 18, Mills allegedly changed his previous story and admitted to hiding behind a dumpster, “where he watched the entire incident with the use of a scope,” Gorlicki wrote.
The girl, and eventually her father, admitted to walking home from the park and “acting like nothing happened,” according to the warrant statement.
Dickerson, who pleaded not guilty Jan. 23, remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bail. Mills has yet to be taken into custody, a search of sheriff’s jail records on Friday revealed.
The rape allegations are being investigated, Gorlicki wrote.
It was unclear if the girl’s friend, also a minor, will be charged in the case.
