Fire Contained to 51 Acres

Two fires destroyed vehicles, acres of brush and got dangerously close to at least one house.

Firefighters contained two blazes today east of Wine Country to 51 acres, according to the fire department.

Both fires broke out around 12:15 p.m. about a half mile from each other east of Lake Skinner in Winchester.

One fire broke out near Wayman Way and San Ignacio Road and destroyed nine acres, according to Jody Hagemann of the Riverside County Fire Department.

The other fire consumed 42 acres between San Ignacio and Avenida Peyri, she said.

Sixty-five firefighters, 10 engines, four air tankers, a helicopter and two water tenders fought the blaze, according to the fire department.

Power lines were found lying in the charred fields at both sites, though the cause was still under investigation by 5:30 p.m.

Nobody was injured, and an estimate of how much damage was caused was unavailable.
