A fire devoured four acres of grass today before firefighters got it under control.
Flames were reported at 2 p.m. in a field at Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Calistoga Dr. in French Valley.
"First arriving engine company reported one acre of light grass (on fire) with a medium rate of spread," wrote Cal Fire spokesperson Melody Hendrickson in an announcement.
The fire spread to three acres by 2:39 p.m., and sheriff's deputies closed Commerce Court. The blaze was contained to four acres by 2:50 p.m., and firefighters were on the scene as of publication time dousing hot spots, according to Hendrickson.
