Gun Scare Locks Down School

The suspect turned out to only have a BB gun.

A report of a man with a gun locked down an elementary school, a sheriff's official said.

The Temecula Police Department got a call reporting a man with a gun near on Wednesday while class was in session, said sheriff's Cpl. Courtney Donowho.

The school locked the students down while deputies investigated, the corporal said.

When deputies found the man, they called off the lockdown.

"Once deputies arrived, they discovered that a man had a BB gun in his backyard," Donowho said. "The man never left his yard and no students were ever in danger."

The lockdown was a precautionary measure, she said.

"It turned out to be nothing, but better safe than sorry," Donowho said.
