Hidden Cocaine Lands Mexican in Jail

Six bundles of narcotics were hidden in a van's tire, Border Patrol officials say.

A Mexican man was arrested when six bundles of cocaine were allegedly found in his van.

The search happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Temecula Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 15.

Agents noticed the suspect -- a 27-year-old Mexican citizen -- driving a 1993 Mazda minivan acting "extremely nervous," said Scott Simon of the Border Patrol.

The driver was sent to a secondary inspection, where agents used drug-sniffing dogs to search the van. It indicated it found something in the undercarriage, Simon said.

Agents searched and found 16.9 pounds of cocaine inside a spare tire. On the street, the drugs would be worth $169,300, Scott said.
