A hit-and-run driver who allegedly plowed into a tree and street sign in a residential neighborhood of Winchester left behind a mess, and now at least one neighbor is concerned for the community's safety.
A tipster forwarded the attached photo of the crash aftermath -- flattened, twisted metal that once designated the streets of Avignon Court and St. Tropez Drive.
The alleged hit-and-run crash allegedly occurred Saturday sometime around 1:30 a.m., according to the tipster. Police responded to the scene several hours later, but as of Monday evening the sign remained a tangled mess despite several calls to the county, the tipster reported.
"The pole has been broken all the way off, [the] sign has [now] been stolen and jagged metal is sticking out of sidewalk," the tipster told Patch.
The tipster is concerned someone may get hurt on metal shard and was looking for someone to come out and "make this safer soon."
