Great pictures Patch, and I hate to say that. But seeing them hopefully will make some people slow down and be more cautious in those areas of the Freeway. So for that purpose I am glad the pictures are here and also its a miracle no one was seriously injured by the looks of the white vehicle alone, and apparently the shell to the truck. Speeding to get to San Diego for the night or weekend, not worth it guys, now you wont get there at all :/ Remember that next time you are cutting through traffic, or tailgating, or cutting across 3 lanes to make an exit, if you crash, you don't get there, and maybe you will never get anywhere again except a casket. :/

Brenda - what if the facts show it was someone going unusually slow, against the flow of traffic that caused the accident? "Slow down" doesn't solve everything. Traffic flow and lane awareness are so much more important.

It is sad, there are accidents pretty much every day at these offramps, people do need to slow down and know as we see it every day those offramps back up. BE AWARE AND SLOW DOWN!

"Great pictures Patch," thank you Brenda.

always involves a pickup truck

Also that drg is valid points. Have seen drivers going so slow in a lane as they are texting away on their phone, not even watching in front of them. :/ All traffic rules need to be obeyed, even going to slow on a freeway doing 70mph. Do not mind being corrected if I am wrong or left something out which I often do. Just my experience of driving the speed limit through these areas are people flying past me, cutting me off with inches between their car and mine and its a horrible feeling. :/

Be careful what you speak of ... you clearly don't know what your talking about. The white Scion is my family member of mine and was definitely not hurrying out of town nor texting or any other uninformed assumption of yours. My aunt was seriously injured and so much so that they are transfering her to a bigger hospital out of the area. The driver of another vehicle had to air lifted out. Please think before you speak (or type). You really come across as uninformed, self righteous and an all around no it all.

hope everything is ok. Can we get another freeway going east west from temecula to 5 fwy. Currently we are a terrorist wet dream! all they have to do is drop a bomb at the 76 and 74 on the 15 fwy and we are isolated from the rest of California.

I know at least one of these drivers is in intensive care not sure on recovery. In the article it says 2 were rushed to hospital with major injuries. Why would you write no one was seriously injured. Also, one was my mom's friend doing her regular business not rushing down the road to San Diego. Try to be polite and respectful. The article does not give witness accounts or any cause information. You cannot assume anything.

My mother was the one seriously injured. She had to be extracated from her vehicle and is in the ICU with VERY serious injuries. Please respect those involved and their families and do not assume anything. The cause of the accident is unknown and under investigation. It has never been stated anywhere that the driver of the white Scion fell asleep at the wheel. Please be respectful and do not post information that is not factual. I pray for all that were involved.

To the DeRoest family, Having worked and carpooled with your mom for 6 years, our entire family has your mom and your family in our prayers daily without ceasing.

Dearest DeRoest family, Our heart goes out to you all. Having been your mom's carpool partner for a few years, I was always amazed at her tenaciousness and the love of her work. As for one of the members of our family said, "She is very important to me. She was always there for me." Let her know this member is graduating with honors, and we all send our love to her and your family.

Hi Kim, I have recently gotten to know your mom through Harvester's Sunday School Class. Like her little Eli, we are putting our doggie through therapy training so I am always chatting with your mom about having a therapy dog, and of course enjoying petting him. A few weeks ago she and Eli came to Petsmart to sit in and watch our Sweetie Pie train. Your mom is a a very special lady, and she is in our daily prayers. I hope Eli can be with her as she is recovering. We look forward to seeing her when she is up to visitors. Elizabeth Norman

Tracy, I in no way made any direct remarks about anyone in that accident, or said one caused it. It could have been a 1000 different things. I am NOT talking about something I dont know about, nor making uninformed assumptions, I do think before I type especially about the number of accidents on our local freeways, neither am I self righteous(which is even more strange of a word to use in this situation), nor am I a "KNOW" it all. Accidents happen because "someone" did something "wrong" out of turn, were not paying attention, speeding, going too slow as DRG presents, wreckless driving, taking their eyes off the road for one second, car problem.... There are thousands of reasons. Those who wrecklessly cut across 3 rows of rush hour traffic to make the Winchester exit. If you are not aware of that then you need to frequent our freeway section in Temecula/Murrieta more often and if you sit high enough in an SUV you can see how many are on cell phones talking, or texting, or fiddling with kids or some other thing. Drivers do NOT pay attention for some reason or other and an accident happens. Unfortunately people get hurt, and some badly hurt like your aunt and unfortunately that accident was caused by something, even a blown out tire. Read my post again Tracy and the 100's each month about our freeway accidents we all post and are concerned about. I am very sorry about your Aunt, more then you will know actually, and as everyone reading this is.

CM very true, and there are so many each day and most we don't hear about. Was coming home Mother's day from Lake Mathews and there was three accidents on off to the side from the 15 and 215 dumping together. From that point to the Winchester exit. 2 or 3 miles tops? None of them looked very bad, fender benders, side scraps, just carelessness moving from the 15 over to the Winchester exit, or people not letting them in. Etc. Etc. same things different day was all. :/
Brenda May 22, 2012 at 01:50 AM
Dang Winchester I could have went without thinking about that one.!!! Chnit. ;/
Brenda May 22, 2012 at 02:03 AM
Puzzler, no one is assuming and I understand that some friends and family are sensitive at this point and I personally am sorry if my post was misunderstood. I definately never said or insinuated that anyone, was the cause of this wreck. My post is a general statement meant to bring more knowledge to everyone about the dangers of this portion of freeway and its exits on ramps. If you all look back we debate this area alot in the patch and way to improve the situation especially getting drivers to be careful, stick to the speed limit, remember to get in line at Winchester to get off a mile before the exit, not wait until the last second and dart in front of all the other cars. We have been trying to bring interest to the police to ticket it more, to watch it more, give warnings, more cement baracades, all sorts of things we have discussed to keep drivers safe. Get the tickets out to speeders and wreckless drivers. I do not see that anyone here even hinted at how this accident happened yet everyone is being attacked when we are concerned that people are ok. You are right the article did not say that anyone was seriously injured and in Icu. Which probably at the time no one knew that, the police who reported it to this articles writer. I hope that your Aunt, mother, friends, everyone in all three cars are ok and on the road to a fast recovery. I do not read anything here thats says someone fell asleep at the Scion or that it was her fault, or anyones.

Pattie, thank you for your comments. My dad passed away last year of cancer, which only makes the trauma of this incident harder. I am holding on the best I can and am encouraged when I see mom's daily progress. If you would like updates on her recovery, check out my blog at www.caringbridge.org/visit/phoebespencer
