A 59-year-old man is due in court Wednesday, charged with assault with a deadly weapon after pointing a shotgun at a girl who knocked on the door of his Temecula home, hoping to sell him some Girl Scout cookies.

John Michael Dodrill is due to appear at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center after his arrest Sunday afternoon for the assault in the 31000 block of Strawberry Tree Lane.

Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Daniel Decker said the incident was witnessed by the girl's father, who called police, around 11:25 a.m. Online jail records show Dodrill was in custody 90 minutes later.

The Press-Enterprise reported that police seized both handguns and long guns from Dodrill's home after the arrest.

The 7-year-old girl is a member of the San Gorgonio Girl Scouts. Scouts spokeswoman Jua-Nita Houston said the girl was shaken by the incident, but planned to continue her fundraising activities.

"She set very strong goals for herself, and she's going to meet those goals," Houston told the newspaper.

FREEDOMWORKS will say that the man thought it was the cookie monster at the door, so he had the right to go all Wyatt Earp on the little girl scout.

Well dont send little kids out to sell a product. Many schools do it they send your kids out to go door to door and beg for money
john blackwood February 04, 2014 at 08:31 PM
Girl scouts is a shame I wouldn't buy those over priced cookies for the life of me .I just couldn't do it
TemecuLangolier February 04, 2014 at 08:34 PM
John Blackwood, why are you so angry? Maybe we should make our kids pack heat when they go door to door? Just in case they come across creeps like you and The Cookie Monster guy.

Guns work both ways, please go back to watching Glen Beck your leader and god.

This father who pimped his daughter door-to-door should be investigated. CPS should be called. Is he the true father? Keep Gypsies, vagrants, beggars, and sellers of Guatemalan deepfry away from my front porch....................... This is Temecula not Tijuana
TemecuLangolier February 04, 2014 at 09:20 PM
Hidell Fox News is on, go gather some talking points.

Alek- this father was being a responsible dad. Why is Temecula any different than Newport Beach, I grew up there, and sold girl scout cookies every year. My parents were not gypsies. If people do not like sales people put up a no solicitors sign- that should keep the church folk away too! You sound a bit strange- did you not ever get involved as a child trying to win the prize for selling the most-well that is sad for you. All the kids on my street sell gift wrap to frozen deserts, and their parents follow them as they are going door to door-that is the sign of a great parent! I hope this gun pointing wierdo really gets help, and is deeply looked into.

Cheri- Alek like to stir the pot. My daughters and granddaughters sold GS cookies both in Redlands and here. They went door to door and never had to have an adult tag along- they kept in their neighborhood where everybody knew them or sold at grocery stores. This guy is certifiable and hopefully will get what punishment the law allows. Maybe he will get a jury trial that I can be on.
Cheri February 05, 2014 at 08:19 PM
Thank you for your comment Steve, ...you sound like a regular great dad, and grandpa. Yes, this Alek sounds like a dad I would never want to have had!...or neighbor! I use to go on this patch when the Quarry was in debate-and have not been on for a long time ...until this. I hope they keep him..it is creepy sick people like this that get worse with time-who knows what he could do- if mad when out? So what if they took his guns, obviously now you can get one anywhere! I think if they let him out he should be under house arrest until a trial or some kind of safety net-leopards do not change their spots!

Cheri, I have a "no solicitors" sign and point it out to everyone who comes to my door selling whatever they are selling. I've had countless cable TV, alarm, and newspaper companies knock on my door. And yes I have even had Girl Scouts (with their mommies present) ring the bell just below the sign. Now I am polite to the Girl Scouts and have even bought some cookies from my porch but the signs don't work. And even if they did work, that doesn't even come close to being harassed going in and coming out of every grocery store and department store by these little girls. In recent years I think less and less people are buying your (yes, greatly overpriced) boxes of cookies. That's why the Girl Scout flavors are showing up in stores via candy bars and ice cream. The Girl Scouts should just sell them in stores like all other cookie manufactures. How would you like it if you say little girls in Oreo costumes selling Oreo cookies at every store? It just wouldn't look right!

Oh, BTW, the guy in this story is an idiot and should go to jail. A gun is for self defense, not to scare little girls pushing their product.
john blackwood February 11, 2014 at 09:05 PM
I laugh at the fact that ppl will say go back to watching Glenn Beck or Fox news .Why would I even remotely even consider watching these puppets of the satanic perverted child molesting sickos .I laugh uf you read up on the constitution and the laws you wouldnt need a box with propaganda and filling your minds with subliminal messages. If this dad was helping hus kid and teaching her how to be a little begger as all schools try to promote by sending the children to sell various merchandise .Then the gun owner was teaching this dad and kid a lesson .Not all kin take to strangers walking up and ringing the door bell.
john blackwood February 11, 2014 at 09:07 PM
As for steve Newman get over yourself your a pompous .Between you and Brenda I laugh at your comments because you too are puppets.
Steve Newman February 12, 2014 at 03:09 AM
John Blackwood- you just get out or were you freeze dried.
ChrisG February 12, 2014 at 08:27 AM
@steve, I don't know where Blackwood was but I know it wasn't in an English class. Atrocious grammar! Why is it so many do not know how to properly use to, too or two; your, you're; their, there or they're? This is fifth grade English for heavens sake.
Cheri February 12, 2014 at 07:05 PM
Steve and Chris, I was going to leave a comment last night, after reading John Blackwood's idiotic sick incorrectly spelled blurbs. He should go back to 5th grade, learn proper grammar, along with punctuation. His typing skills need some honing up too! I believe he was freeze dried and not quite thawed out from his sick comments. Talk about being pompous! Why were doorbells invented? It's your choice to answer the door and if you do with a gun, it is your consequence.
john blackwood February 13, 2014 at 05:33 PM
OH SORRY if my punctuation is unorthodox for some of you highly educated minds but I will not because typing on a phone takes longer duh.Cheri another fine example of an IDIOT.
john blackwood February 13, 2014 at 05:37 PM
Why you ppl mad because one does not agree ob the same level ok lets all be like Cheri Steve and Chris .
john blackwood February 13, 2014 at 05:38 PM
Cheri got popped.
ChrisG February 13, 2014 at 05:44 PM
@john, nobody is mad at your opinion being different. We were just commenting on how stupid you look by the way you responded. It's your choice if you want people to think you're an uneducated fool then continue responding like that. Just know that is doesn't help sell your side of the argument.
john blackwood February 13, 2014 at 06:11 PM
Dont be mad you may need anger management classes alobg with cheri and steve .Go get the help that you guys need its ok we will all understand
Steve Newman February 13, 2014 at 07:26 PM

john blackwood February 13, 2014 at 08:54 PM
Haha Steve popped Brenda n cherri
Cheri February 13, 2014 at 11:14 PM
Hi Chris and Steve, obviously this John Blackwood can not take constructive criticism. I am only on here to voice my opinion regarding the man who opened the door pointing a shotgun. I will comment when I feel that someone is a sicko. But the main topic here is about the man who made a very poor choice to open his door with a shotgun pointed at a 7 year old child. John Blackwood seems to keep making himself look like a complete buffoon...I guess he'll just get blisters on his fingers typing on a phone, and about anger management, he presents himself as a very angry man.
Steve Newman February 14, 2014 at 06:41 PM
John Blackwood- "HA Ha, Steve popped Brenda and cheri". What rabbit hole did you climb out of for that.? Real mature- or maybe Cheri was right- you are a fifth grader-better watch what we say- you might accuse us of stalking you.
Michael A Dodrill March 07, 2014 at 03:13 AM
Man, I see this and wonder if I ever wanted to meet the guy, or if I'm better off not knowing him...
Michael A Dodrill March 07, 2014 at 03:14 AM
