Man Assaulted at Alleged Pot Dispensary

Investigators are looking for leads on the assailant.

A man was attacked at a marijuana dispensary on Jefferson, and investigators are looking for leads.

The attack happened around 9:20 p.m. Sunday at 27491 Jefferson Avenue, according to sheriff’s Cpl. Courtney Donowho.

When deputies arrived, they found the 50-year-old victim from Canyon Lake bloodied with facial injuries. The assailant had already fled, the corporal said.

The victim was in the dispensary when he got into an argument with a man. The argument escalated, and the suspect hit the victim in the face, he told deputies.

When questioned, the victim was “uncooperative with officers,” Donowho said. He was taken to Inland Valley Hospital for treatment.

The business seemingly closed after the attack, complicating the investigation, Donowho said. “Officers have since returned to the business where this occurred to try to identify or contact a suspect or any potential witnesses, but the store has been closed.”

Deputies returned today to investigate a call about blood stains on the pavement outside the shop, but they determined they were left there Sunday night, she said.

The store isn’t a dispensary, and the attack didn’t happen inside the store, said Beau Attride, who said he runs a T-shirt screening business at the location. “We’re not a marijuana dispensary, we’re a T-shirt company,” he said.

His shop was closed at 9 p.m. Sunday night, and when he got there Monday morning, he found blood stains outside his door, Attride said.

“When we got here in the morning, there was a bunch of blood by the door,” he said.
