Man in Temecula Child Annoyance Incident Resembles Prior Suspect, Officials Say

A man resembling the suspect in a Sept. 30 incident at Wolf Creek Park is said to have approached a group of fifth-grade girls Friday by speaking to them through a fence bordering the Red Hawk Elementary field.

Temecula parents were alerted Tuesday about a recent alleged child annoyance incident near Red Hawk Elementary in which the suspect reportedly bore resemblance to one sought in connection with two previous incidents.

At about 12:50 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, a man is said to have approached a group of fifth-grade girls by speaking to them through a fence bordering the Red Hawk Elementary field, according to a letter sent to parents by the Temecula Valley Unified School District.

The suspect allegedly encouraged the girls to come to the other side of the fence where he was, but they refused and ran back toward campus, the letter stated.

Because school was dismissed a short time later, the district said the girls went home without reporting it to their teacher.

“Red Hawk Elementary School became aware of the incident Monday morning and contacted the Temecula Police Department. Detectives are actively investigating this case,” the letter stated.

The suspect in Friday’s incident was described as Hispanic, 20-25 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build, short, slicked-back hair, and a thin mustache and beard.

The letter went on to state that the suspect description was very similar to that of a man who approached two young girls Sept. 30 at Wolf Creek Park and allegedly made sexually suggestive remarks. Although the girls were approached separately, they gave identical descriptions of the man, police later said.

Police have provided a composite sketch of the suspect and encouraged anyone who recognizes him to contact Investigator Rachel Frost at 951-696-3000 or call the Riverside County sheriff’s dispatch line at 951-776-1099.
