Man Pleads Not Guilty to Killing Couple in Crash

Christopher Keith Bostic, 45, could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted.

A Temecula man accused of killing a couple when he plowed through a red light and broadsided the victims' compact sport utility vehicle pleaded not guilty Tuesday to gross vehicular manslaughter and other felonies.

Christopher Keith Bostic, 45, could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted in the Oct. 20 deaths of Amar Jain, 74, and his wife, Cheryl Jain, 66, of Yorba Linda.

In addition to two counts of manslaughter, Bostic is charged with hit- and-run resulting in injury and multiple sentence-enhancing allegations, including being a habitual offender and inflicting great bodily injury or death.

Bostic, who is being held in lieu of $140,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, appeared with his attorney today before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Timothy Freer, who set a felony settlement conference in the case for Nov. 29.

According to sheriff's investigators, around 3 p.m. on Oct. 20, Bostic allegedly ran a red traffic signal at Rancho California Road and Jefferson Avenue, causing his 2006 Hyundai midsize sedan to collide with a 2008 Honda CRV being driven by Amar Jain.

Jain was attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Rancho California from southbound Jefferson at the time, sheriff's Sgt. John Magnan said. Bostic was headed west on Rancho California and "entered the intersection against a red light," Magnan said.

The Jains suffered catastrophic injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner's office.

Bostic was also injured and rushed to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he spent several weeks recovering. He missed five previously scheduled arraignments because doctors would not medically clear him to travel.

Bostic has seven convictions for vehicle code infractions, mainly for speeding, over the last five years, according to court records.

Louison Bobet November 21, 2012 at 03:15 PM
Let the remaining Jain family run his worthless a$$ over with a nice big SUV, that's justice!! seven counts of previous wreckless driving, what is our justice system worth? 0
what do you think? November 21, 2012 at 03:22 PM

Cash November 21, 2012 at 03:23 PM
How about a picture of this loser! This story has not been covered like it deserves! This POS murdered 2 people in our community.

The defendant always pleads "not guilty", that way they can look for a deal and reduced sentence. If they plead guilty to these charges, then there is no way for a reduction.
TVOR November 21, 2012 at 04:20 PM
I hope this a$$hole is forced to have pictures of his victims pinned up in his prison cell.
Lash LaRue November 21, 2012 at 05:05 PM
Bring him out in front of the courthouse and let the public take turns hitting him with a baseball bat.

You are right O-Really. As seen by this one case in particular I FOR ONE will not forget. We have not heard if this woman has been charged or not. Exact crime as this man, running red light and killing 25 yr old Marine, Nicholas Musto. http://temecula.patch.com/articles/victim-in-temecula-car-crash-dies-from-injuries Also have a skateboarder who was killed in the same area, need an update on that one too please. Then the two men on bikes. One was over in the Old Town Area I believe and the driver of his truck drifted to the curb area where the man was riding. Still looking for the other bike rider killed article, it was around the same day. We have many cases of murder with vehicles and no follow ups as yet. Mirna do you know about any of these yet? I would like to see that justice is served in all these casess where the victims were innocent of any wrong doing. Otherwise women or men could run over their spouses and say it was an "accident" and get off scott free. Christopher Keith Bostic, 45. Cant get over that low bail. 140k so he can get out and enjoy life for the next 3 yrs it takes us to convict him. Lord I pray he doesnt get off with 2 yrs for killing these people. :/
Brenda November 21, 2012 at 08:06 PM
Yep, why did he have a license? Why does a man who also have 3 prior DUI's have a license still, gets drunk and kills a man on his way to work at 5am? (Just another of our recent cases)? If we were stronger and proactive against these idiots who drive like this, chronic, and also chronic drunk drivers it wont get to the point of killing people. Its a wonder, and an act of God that this man did not kill more people that day. THAT DEAD COUPLE could have been any of us who live here in Temecula and our wonderful courts kept letting him out to kill someone.
HighRoller November 21, 2012 at 10:04 PM
How do you just blow through a red light sober? I didnt hear anything about drugs or alchohol so I assume he was sober?
Janny November 21, 2012 at 10:25 PM
Kinda glad he lived so he can deal with the knowledge of what he did. Like the idea of posting his victims' pictures in his cell. He should never be allowed out!
Brenda November 21, 2012 at 10:36 PM
HE has a history of driving like this apparently from the article. He should also have had a history of having his license taken away after 7 times, and the Judge's who didnt take it away should be held responsible. Seriously until we change the laws, or the Judges are at least made to have responsibility for what these guys do after they get such light sentences, they are going to keep on keeping on. Killing people, driving around, killing more people. A sure fire way to get laws, and sentencing changed is to start holding the Judges responsible for these guys they let out on 140k bail for one thing, and then 2nd, for the sentences they give when you could obviously see this guy was a traumatic accident waiting to happen. Not Accident, a murderer waiting to happen. What an easy way to kill people if you have that urge. Dont have to go and find them in the night, break into their homes and do them in, just drive like a bat out of hell all your life and kill them iwth your car. If you do get charged with vehicular manslaughter after all that, you will serve 2 years of 4. Not too bad, and then when you get out and get your license back, go back to work for Mommy and Daddy who are supporting you all your lousy life. CHANGE LAWS AND SENTENCES, and Judges be more aware of the bails you set, this man does NOT deserve to be out walking the streets while we wait for his trial.
keepn it real November 22, 2012 at 02:15 AM
So sad all of it .But people drive wasted here all the time I saw one driving home from work today! People drink at home or use the cab service ..If your caught drunk driving you should lose your lic. And if you've had more then one speeding ticket in a year you should lose your lic..people lost their lives and familys are changed forever.heart breaking....
Michael November 22, 2012 at 06:37 AM
They were murdered in our community but they were from Orange County.
Michael November 22, 2012 at 06:41 AM
T 22 I know my dad has told me that before but I still don't understand. If he pleads not guilty isn't that like saying he never did it so he is lying and should get more time. If he pleads guily isn't he admitting he did it and should get less time. I still don't understand that?
Al Salamat November 22, 2012 at 07:56 AM
Nowhere does it say he had a valid license. Most people who have a suspended license or have never been issued a license drive regardless.
