Mexican Citizen Allegedly Caught With $105,000 Bag of Meth

The 19-year-old man was caught at the Temecula Border Patrol checkpoint with a bundle of the drug hidden in his car.

A Mexican citizen was caught allegedly trying to smuggle a 5.25-pound bundle of methamphetamine into Temecula.

The 19-year-old man was driving a gray 1994 Jeep Cherokee at about 9:30 a.m. Monday through the Border Patrol's checkpoint on Interstate 15 when agents spotted him.

"Agents became suspicious of the man’s demeanor and referred the vehicle for secondary inspection," said Mary Beth Lane Caston, a spokesperson for the Border Patrol.

Agents used a drug-sniffing dog to inspect the Jeep. It signaled an alert, and agents searched the vehicle and found the bundle, which was valued at $105,000.
The suspected smuggler was arrested by agents and is being held pending state charges. The drugs were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
