More Details Emerge In Fatal Temecula Crash

An autopsy for Dustin Alan Marine has been scheduled and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Police have released more details about Sunday’s crash in Temecula that killed a pedestrian.

Dustin Alan Marine, 24, of Temecula was crossing the street at Rancho California and Moraga roads shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday night when he was struck by a compact car and killed, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

The car’s driver, a 19-year-old Temecula man, said he was traveling east on Rancho California when Marine, who was wearing dark clothing, ran in front of him, according to a report from Sgt. Dean Spivacke of the Temecula Police Department.

The teen was unable to stop in time. Marine was propelled a distance and landed in the roadway, Spivacke explained in his report.

The driver stopped his car in the road to help the pedestrian, but as he did a 22-year-old motorcyclist from Murrieta struck his open driver's side door, the sergeant continued. The motorcyclist crossed over the center median, coming to a rest in the westbound lanes of Rancho California Road, he added.

Both Marine and the male motorcyclist were transported to local hospitals. However, Marine succumbed to his injuries at 9:50 p.m. as he was being transported, according to the sergeant.

The motorcyclist was treated and released for minor injuries, Spivacke continued.

An autopsy for Marine has been scheduled and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.

“At this point, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor…,” Spivacke reported.

The identity of the car’s driver has not been released, and the sergeant said no charges are expected to be filed against him.
