Music Teacher Accused With Embezzling From Church

He had been stealing from the church's safe for more than a year, a police official says.


A music teacher was arrested on suspicion of stealing money from a church's safe.

Jared Burkholder, 33, was arrested at 10:12 p.m. at and booked into the on charges of burglary, grand theft and embezzlement. He posted $30,000 bail today and was released, according to jail records.

Investigators were dispatched to the church Sunday night, and employees said the man had been stealing from the church for more than a year, according to sheriff's Sgt. Terry Jones.

"Burkholder was seen coming out of an office where the safe was located. Employees reviewed the video surveillance system and witnessed Burkholder take and unknown amount of currency from the safe," the sergeant reported.
