Pedestrian Hospitalized in Hit-and-Run

The 28-year-old victim sustained serious head injuries, and the suspect is on the loose.

Investigators were searching today for a suspect who hit a pedestrian with his car and sped away.

The victim, Robert Kemp, of Hemet, was crossing Rancho California Road with two friends just west of the crosswalk at Ynez Road around 10 p.m. Monday when he was hit on the eastbound side, according to sheriff's Cpl. Brian De Loss.

Kemp was rushed to a hospital with serious head trauma, but he should live, De Loss said. "He is expected to survive," the corporal wrote in an announcement.
