A man on a bicycle rode up to a motorist sitting in a vehicle behind a business in Mead Valley early Saturday, stabbed him in the neck and then stole the vehicle.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 4:47 a.m. to the 23200 block of Cajalco Road for what was initially reported as an assault with a deadly weapon call.
When deputies arrived at the location they found an injured 58-year-old man inside a business. They learned the victim had been approached by a man on a bicycle and carjacked, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Gil Gonzalez said.
The victim was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery. He was expected to survive his injuries, the sergeant said.
Witnesses and video surveillance showed the suspect attacked the victim and took the his vehicle. The vehicle was found a short time later at an undisclosed location, damaged and abandoned following a crash, Gonzalez said.
The carjacking suspect evaded capture despite a search. He was described as a bald, 6-foot black man wearing a white shirt, black pants and white shoes, Gonzalez said.
