Police Accuse Alleged Strawberry Stand Robber Of Sex Crimes

Jail records also show Carlos Moya, 24, has been booked on suspicion of various crimes, including robbery and unlawful sex with a minor.

A man suspected of holding up a Winchester strawberry stand at gunpoint earlier this year has finally been arrested – for far more than stealing fruit.

Perris resident Carlos Moya, 24, was nabbed by police June 5 on Cochise Road in Perris. He was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of robbery, violation of probation, conspiracy to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm, according to jail records.

However, jail records also show Moya was booked on suspicion of unlawful sex with a minor, oral copulation with a child under 16, sexual penetration with a foreign object, and hit and run resulting in property damage.

On April 27, Moya allegedly robbed the strawberry stand located in the 34000 block of Simpson Road.

“The investigation revealed a male subject brandished a handgun at the employee and demanded money. He fled in an older Nissan Altima with two subjects. A witness captured several numbers of the license plate as the vehicle sped away,” reported Sgt. Ryan Hoxmeier of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Details on the investigation into Moya’s alleged sex crimes have not been made public by police, and it is not immediately clear how police tied him to the various crimes.

Moya is currently being held at Robert Presley Detention Center in lieu of $150,000 bail, jail records show.
