UPDATED: Lockdown Ends at Temecula Elementary School After Nearby Bomb Threat

UPDATED at 2:05 p.m. May 13:

A lockdown of Temecula Elementary School ended at 1:02 p.m. when law enforcement cleared the scene of a investigation into a bomb threat that allegedly targeted an apartment complex in the 41600 block of Moraga Road in Temecula.

"Residents were allowed back in at about 12:40 a.m.," said Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Albert Martinez, on behalf of the Temecula Police Department.

The school and the neighboring complex were the scene of the investigation that lasted more than two hours Monday in response to an "anonymous call that three explosive devices had been placed at the apartment complex."

In the end, the sheriff's Hazardous Device Team was unable to locate any suspicious devices, Martinez said.

"Everything has checked out OK," Martinez said. "It doesn't appear like we found anything."

Margarita and Moraga roads, which had been closed near the scene of the investigation, had since been reopened.

Law enforcement are continuing their investigation to determine who may have placed the call, Martinez said.  

"The caller was anonymous."

Temecula Elementary School was on lockdown Monday morning due to a bomb threat in the apartment complex across the street from the school, according to district and police officials.

Temecula police were notified of the threat at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Albert Martinez said.

"The anonymous caller said he had placed three explosive devices at the location in the 41600 block of Margarita Road," Martinez said.

The elementary school, at 41951 Moraga Road, was placed on lockdown while the threat was being investigated.

One apartment complex had been evacuated, Martinez said.

A Hazardous Device Team from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department was on scene, and as of 11:40 a.m., Martinez said they had yet to locate any suspicious devices.

The Temecula Valley Unified School District announced on its Facebook page that "students will be kept in their classrooms until the lockdown order is lifted."

Moraga and Maragarita roads were closed at the incident.
