A perimeter search in Temecula for a crossbow-wielding, helmet-wearing robbery suspect lasted late into the night Friday.
The police activity was ongoing and at one point in the evening included a wash area near Temecula and Pechanga parkways, according to police radio conversation. Resources included a sheriff's helicopter, a police Bloodhound and several local law enforcement personnel.
The alleged robbery was reported at 6:45 p.m. at a smoke shop at 31141 Temecula Parkway, sheriff's Deputy Steven Favero confirmed.
"We did respond to a robbery and we are actively searching," said Favero at about 10:20 p.m. Friday. "We are using our resources and following up on leads."
The suspect was described as a 6-foot-2-inch white or Hispanic man with a stocky build wearing a motorcycle helmet and carrying a crossbow.
"Witnesses to the incident advised responding officers that the suspect came into the store wearing a motorcycle helmet and carrying a crossbow," sheriff's Sgt. James Larson stated in a news release. "The suspect brandished the crossbow at the clerk and demanded money. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken and the suspect fled the store."
An extensive search of the area was called off late Friday after officers were unable to locate the suspect.
The investigation continues; anyone with information regarding the incident or the suspect's identity was encouraged to contact Officer Grimm at the Temecula Police Department at 951-696-3000.
