ORIGINAL POST NOV. 6: More than 24 hours after an 18-year-old special needs student walked off the Elsinore High School campus in Wildomar and vanished, he still eludes police.

David Allen Soto of Wildomar was last seen at 8 a.m. Tuesday leaving the campus located on Canyon Drive in Wildomar. The incident was reported to police by school officials, and the search continues for his whereabouts.

Lt. Zach Hall of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station, speaking from a sheriff's command post set up at Mission Trail Library in Wildomar, talked about the intense search underway.

He said the efforts have proved difficult.

"We are following up on any and all leads, but we really don't have a place to look for him. He's the kind of kid who just doesn't want to be found," Hall said.

Soto is autistic, suffers from schizophrenia, has the mental capacity of a 15-year-old, and takes doctor-ordered medications, according to a report issued by the sheriff's department.

Soto has been reported missed three times prior to this week's incident -- once in October 2012, again in February 2013, and then in June 2013, Hall said.

Currently, 29 volunteers are out searching for the teen, as well as sheriff's deputies. Two bloodhounds have been used in the search -- one from the sheriff's department and another from the Murrieta Police Department, Hall said.

Officials are going door-to-door, to homes and businesses, handing out fliers with Soto's photo, and that effort will continue, Hall said.

At press time, there are no leads on the teen.

"This is a difficult case because he does not want to be found," Hall continued, explaining that lost victims usually want to be located, but Soto's past behavior indicates he's not really looking for rescue.

Hall said transportation services and hospitals, as well as other emergency services, have been contacted about Soto's disappearance, and they are on the lookout. The FBI is also aware of the missing teen, Hall said.

According to reports provided to police, Soto did not have any money with him when he disappeared.

The teen is described as Hispanic, 6’ tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve Laker’s hoodie with blue Levi pants and black tennis shoes.

The search for Soto will continue through the night, if needed.

"We're not going to stop," Hall said.

The Wildomar Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance regarding Soto's disappearance. Refer any and all information to Lt. Zach Hall by calling (951) 445-7951 or dispatch personnel by calling (951) 776-1099.
