That Winchester off ramp is horrible....I try to avoid that whole area....
Tracey McDaneld September 12, 2012 at 04:42 PM
There are daily accidents there cases by those damn k-rails with nowhere to go when traffic stops in an instant. Yes, me included. I was Only going about 15mph but I always leave a big distance for my safety but when someone cuts in at the last minute, it's still my fault for rear ending. I think cal Trans and the city should take some responsibility!
Julie Qwayne September 12, 2012 at 04:55 PM
I feel ya Tracey same thing happened to me someone cut in at the last minute and slammed on his breaks and of course my fault.... They need to do something to fix the daily maddness it has been horrible for over 10 years.
Jacob Robinson September 12, 2012 at 05:12 PM
Sounds like some folks need to bring this to the city's attention? Patch comments are good to confirm a problem, but this shouldn't be the end of the road for this discussion.
Victoria Klein September 12, 2012 at 05:26 PM
I feel that if they would just put up cement barriors 1500 from offramp, separating the offramp with southbound traffic, no one could cut in at the last minute to cause they horrific accidents.
david nash September 12, 2012 at 05:50 PM
That offramp has got to be one of the most dangerous in the nation. I see accidents there ina daily basis. Get the work DONE ALREADY!
Craig September 12, 2012 at 06:00 PM
The reason for the K-rails is to improve that offramp. Even before the construction that was a very dangerous offramp caused by all the high speed inconsiderate drivers SLOW DOWN People and dont be STUPID!!!!
Linda Davis September 12, 2012 at 08:06 PM
Can't fix Stupid....
Brenda September 12, 2012 at 08:38 PM
Agree with Craig. Just because the design was seriously "lacking" when these Cities went from cowtown to what it is today does not mean that drivers can still barrel around like there is no traffic. Speeding, wreckless driving, texting, putting on makeup, talking on the phone, just not paying attention in general. You know where you have to exit, prepare for it. We did ask for those cement barrels dividing the lanes so that exiting off at Winchester requires you to get in the lane like a half mile before, and that is going to happen, also a 2nd exit lane is suppose to be happening. Again with cement barrels up for those last minute wreckless idiots speeding up at 80 and cutting over onto the exit. Until things are reconstructed, we have to drive safetly!! We know the exits are there, we know where to get into that lane, if we do it these things will NOT happen. People do not realize if you are sliding up on the 2nd lane doing 70 and cut into cars that are stopped or even doing 50, the car you cut off or TRUCK in this case is going to have to slam on their brakes as to NOT HIT YOU FROM BEHIND, and be thankful he does or you are dead at that speed. So bottom line, get in those exit lanes at least a half mile before the exit or do NOT exit there, and use the next one. Its that simple. Watch for people cutting you off, and do not be defensive cause they are going to do it anyway, and if you hit them from behind for whatever reason its still your fault unfortunately.

Not a bad idea.
Randy September 12, 2012 at 10:38 PM
The same people do this stuff every day. Can't wait your turn like everyone else, got to get 10 cars ahead. They wait until the last minute then dive in which of course causes people behind to slam on their brakes many times causing a crash. Granted the ramp probably isn't the best design for the amount of traffic but I blame the idiotic drivers more then the ramp. These people get behind the wheel and all logic is nonexistent.
Denise Cook September 12, 2012 at 11:23 PM
Death trap!
glenn decicco September 12, 2012 at 11:36 PM
craig you said it right....slow down people!!!...you know its a mess there and always backs up and on top of that dont be a dumbass who gets on the fwy one exit before, dashes across to far left lane at 90 mph just to dash back across to get off at the next exit
Christine September 13, 2012 at 12:12 AM
Anyone who uses that exit is a fool. Accidents are a daily occurrence at the exit.
Joan September 13, 2012 at 01:07 AM
Pushing back this single lane off ramp 1/2 mile or more will just cause accidents to happen 1/2 mile or more back from where they are now! The answer is a multiple lane off ramp and better traffic control at the signal at Winchester. And, of course, the rude drivers who think they are beyond the rules of the road, jumping in at the last second, has a lot to do with it!
KB September 13, 2012 at 04:39 AM
What we need is for CHP to actually enforce trucking/trucker laws.
JJ Mclure September 13, 2012 at 01:00 PM
dump some cow manure in the city council's desk
keepn it real September 13, 2012 at 01:57 PM
I avoid this off ramp! I get off in Murrieta and cruz home.we call it the death trap off ramp..I know of 4 differnt friends of mine who have had fender benders at the winchester off ramp..awful
censored messenger September 13, 2012 at 02:29 PM
It's REAL hard to avoid that Winchester off-ramp, its a key traffic point for the entire Southwest area. we all dread using it but we must
Tmlure September 13, 2012 at 07:08 PM
Temecula Parkway exit is almost as bad, I get in the very end of the line and wait my turn to exit every single day (luckily I don't have to deal with the Winchester exit). But people are cutting in the whole time, even as the lane is exiting. My husband has taught me not to leave ANY room for people to cut in, because even though it seems safer to do so, it's actually not, because you get those idiots that cut in and slam on their brakes, causing me to slam on mine and hope I don't hit anybody or get it.
kendra September 13, 2012 at 08:16 PM
Can't wait for 2 lanes to exit off Winchester. Forget the 79 Temcula Parkway that is always a nightmare because everyone is going to Pechanga. The lights there do not work together and it is a crawl to get through. You should get off at Ranho CA. The lights there are faster. FYI always exit Rancho CA. Now Margarita has horrible construction and so does Ynez. How to we avoid construction all together? Let's take the hot air balloon lol.
Druss September 13, 2012 at 09:08 PM
"jumping in at the last second, has a lot to do with it!" Correct. Anyone caught trying to cut in at the last second should be pulled from their car and shot right there on the side of the road...in front of all the other knucklheads who are considering cutting in at the last second themselves.
Druss September 13, 2012 at 09:13 PM
If you're one of the idiots who regularly tries cutting in at the last second at the Winchester off ramp please do everyone a favor and drive calmly, courteously, and within the speed limit to the nearest fatally tall cliff and drive off it. Or better yet, park at the top and jump off of it.(this way you won't harm the environment or offend any tree huggers with the smoke from your burning vehicle. kthxbye
Brenda September 14, 2012 at 01:57 AM
2nd that Druss. We preach it every single accident that is reported in the Patch. So that is not counting the ones where police are not called, nor a report taken. We go on and on and on about the drivers, some blame the freeway design. We can blame freeway, mall, store front designs all day, and that they built a huge mall and car centers right on the freeway so there is no where to Expand! Yes, the planners were ignorant, yes the City didnt plan ahead, or behind. But the main point is this, its the drivers!! We have had these same freeways, 15, 215 for years now, with the same exits, and yes more crap has been built off the ramps. We know there is not enough exit and on ramp lanes. WEALLKNOWTHIS! We are getting a few little changes done thanks to God and alot of complaining, but nothing is still going to change until the drivers stop driving like this is still CowCountry, AmIRight? You are not Parnelli Jones, or Steve McQueen in the Baja 500, its a paved freeway and roads now. Abide by being safe, considerate, no speeding, no speeding up just to cut someone off who is already either stopped or only doing 10 mph in bumper to bumper to get off that ramp. Dont act stupid like you didnt know the exit was that close!! I can read your lips saying "omg sorry I didnt know the ramp was so close"! Drive Safely, considerate, with the flow of traffic, no wreckless driving to get ahead 3 cars, seriously? One day YOU will be the one causing a DEATH, or many DEATHS.
Mikey September 14, 2012 at 03:32 AM
Come on people. The off ramps have been there for years and they have all been improved. Both Winchester and rancho have been redone. The one thing that has changed is more people. Moving from major cities and drive like dip shits. Blame the road that sits there and does nothing or the driver who is in a hurry, texting, doing make up, reading the paper, and many other senseless things while driving in traffic. I see it daily. It amazes me. Come on people you know who you are. Take it easy out there. You being in a hurry is killing people.
Michael December 01, 2012 at 09:28 PM
Do none of you guys realize they are building a new offramp? They are working on that.
