Mark William Winder, 21, was arrested on suspicion of killing 20-year-old Trevor Michael Slusher.

A man was arrested on suspicion of killing a man in Anza.

Mark William Winder, 21, was arrested on Wednesday on an unrelated felony warrant for allegedly cultivating marijuana, according to jail records.

When he was booked into the Southwest Detention Center, the Central Homicide Unit uncovered a connection between the suspect and the murder. A charge of murder was then added to the drug charges, according to sheriff's Sgt. Herman Lopez.

Sheriff's deputies found the victim, 20-year-old Trevor Michael Slusher, dead from gunshot wounds around 9:37 a.m. on Gassner Road at Roger Lane in Anza, according to the sergeant.

So many judge him, but some of those very same people use to call him all the time for favores. And the same people took advantage of his kindness. He knew what people where tring to do. But the fact is that there was no hate or any reason for him to do something like this they in fact grew up together hate isnt in willie people need to stop tweak talking and tweak thinking Willey has alot of heart and when he was called on for help he was always there. And for those that are glad he is in jail im so sure that all the people whos homes and cars where broken into or stolden wish the same for you. Willie isnt a murder he is just easy to blame. I love you Willie

There will always be criminals no matter what you do. Anzas not a horrible place so excuse all the people from out of town that drive through to get to palm springs and just assume that because its not a city where their from, that the town is crap. I have lived in anza my whole life and never have I ever felt unsafe in Anza. The problems lately are cause of METH but of course like always they cover meth with saying its weed. Im sorry but when I smoke a bowl I don't wanna go out and steal and shoot people. How about being truthful and help make everyone realize that METH is the problem. I dont see any commercials or anything about not doing meth everyones all hyped up on trying to get rid of weed and not fully understanding what weed is. what about all the drunk people swerving all over the roads? how about you all start getting to the REAL problem and maybe that towns issue will go down. Or keep saying weeds the problem and keep covering up the fact that its METH and all that other shit goin around right now. You gettin rid of the weed ain't gonna solve anything but make matters worse. But do it go for it and i'll sit back and watch Anza go nowhere yet again because of ignorance. DEA just wants money why would they give a **** about that town if they weren't gonna get big bank outta "saving" it. btw this is just my opinion I dont mean to hurt anyone with it. I just actually want this to stop and taking everyones weed isn't the way thats for sure.

And dont you open your mouth about the boys or their families if you have no idea who they are. Im praying for healing of both families and they are definatly not to blame. Ride in paradise Trevor your deeply missed but many.

Sorry Cathy. I will agree that these things happening with our children as they get into their teens is a shock, and most do come from good families. Families that think their children do not do drugs, or heavy drugs, families who think everything is ok. Their children are happy. Then all of a sudden all hell breaks loose. Something clicks in their heads, or with the help of drugs, and their thought process, shut off valve stops working. Its more and more all the time with teenagers. These things didnt happen when I was young, and kids used marijuana back then too. To look at this boy with the sores on his face he looks more like he was on Meth which would explain more things, other then Pot, if he is found guilty of these crimes. Its a horrible thing to happen to everyone in both families and you are right, they have both lost sons, but at least one will still have physical contact with his. Rip, and God Bless to all. The pain in your heart never goes away and you will never figure out "why" or "what went wrong", so try not to beat yourselves up. :/

Its very bad everywhere in Southeast county concerned. Start and Mead Valley/Perris and keep going south east, south and east. We are literally a mess of drugs. From being a major drop off point coming in from Mexico, and distributing to others to run to Arizona, Los Angeles, etc. to our locals selling it. Thing with Temecula is our kids can afford to buy it and not have to sell it. :/
Brenda March 31, 2012 at 07:44 PM
Like Mead Valley/Perris you can smell the meth being made in Anza as you drive through. :/ I think they need to start at one end of town with bulldozers, and a few mile long line of Military and go literally to house to mobile home, to tunnels, to small businesses, empty buildings and sheds, mobile homes every inch and clean it all out once and for all.

No one can blame the parents. There is a point in there where your wonderful normal child looses control and for what reasons we do NOT know. We try to love them more, talk to them, get them to talk to us, "what is going on, what is bothering you huney", and its nothing but anger back. We can only hope and pray that at some point whether drugs are involved or not, that the teenager, or even 20 yr old realizes that something is wrong and a little help will get them on the right track and feeling better. But the parents are not to blame for heavens sake. Most of us give our children our love, and everything else we possibly can(sometimes too much), we do family vacations, have food, homes, family who loves them etc. Its a mystery as to what happens in there............

Whew Blessings. First the papers editors write an article based on witness reports, police interviews, police reports, jail intake reports, and sentencing paperwork which alot of you can find online yourself. The newspapers has nothing to do with rumors, or run their mouths off, or assume they know something. Also, the first thing a criminal does when he goes to jail is rat out whoever he can, give over information on other cases ie drugs, murders, etc he can. Why do they do this? To get their charges lessened, dropped, or to get probation instead of jail time, alot of reasons. In this case, that might have happened. Someone see's this guy get taken in for Pot, and says to the police, that is the guy that did a drive by on so and so. Also the guys in jail are not on pot or tweeking at the time because they have been in jail, so usually they are more on top of things. Not saying this is what happened, but it could have been. Or it was just timing and he was being looked for doing this shooting. Simple as that.
TVOR March 31, 2012 at 11:52 PM
When a person is arrested, they are checked in databases for info that would link them to other crimes. This guy had a link.
TVOR March 31, 2012 at 11:55 PM
Sometimes good people go bad and do bad things too.
TVOR April 01, 2012 at 12:03 AM
With all the dirtbags the cops bring in, why do you think they would want to push bogus charges on this guy? Especially a murder. Cops can get in trouble for dragging people in for stuff they didn't do. I think if they said there was a reason to investigate him for the murder then they have good reason to believe he was involved.
TVOR April 01, 2012 at 12:11 AM
I have no idea if this guy is guilty of murder or not. I think the reason a lot of people find it easy to believe it is that meth users are known for doing things that are completely out of character for them. It is a proven fact that meth changes a person's brain chemistry and makes them do bad things. That is why I think most people find it easy to believe a meth user would commit a murder.

Mark isn't a murder. This accusation is false. (Innocent til proven guilty) GUILTY TIL PROVEN INNOCENT? Why is he being treated that way? The articles posted are wrong too. Whoever your is giving you your information is wrong. You need honest resources that can help you out with information. Its obvious that the help he's getting isn't helping Mark is not a murder..

To New Sherriff in Town: Please take the meth cookers and pill pushers off the streets before going after the pot heads. Start with the pharmacy that's where the supply is coming from.
New Sheriff in Town April 18, 2012 at 03:16 AM
Contact the DEA Field Office at: 951-328-6000. You will remain anonymous. If nobody knows your handle and you feel it is safe just list the locations of the meth labs and pushers here on the Patch and we will go after them. Change your handle if necessary and do not tell anyone. We need your help! Remember that fear is the beginning of defeat.

I would not suggest to "out" people in the media. If you have information, it should be handled through the Sheriff"s department. You could damage the reputations of innocent people. Vigilante justice is not the right way.

I grew up with both of these boys, and the love I had for both of them was unreal. And honestly I can say we all smoked weed for as long as I can remember and never had any kinds of problems...at all.....until the meth came around and instantly stole the minds of....A LOT of friends. Best friends started stealing and lying, and our TIIGHTKNIT family began falling apart. Its sad that you would rather go after a grower who sits at home and eats minding his own business then take down the people who are damaging minds and killing people. And I KNOW the cops know where the meth is coming from...WHY? Because more times then I could count they have gone into these places, yet as soon as they're gone the drugs are still being sold. It would be nice for the cops to finally step up and handle the REAL problem, meth. Its the dealers who trap these kids by getting them addicted then make them;do their dirty work to get their fix. So why don't we save what's IMPORTANT our youth and children, our next generation...and take down the real criminals..meth cooks and dealers.... so anza can stop dealing with such tragedies. My utmost love goes out to the Slusher family, your son will always be loved and missed, he was a beautiful person .

True Tvor and meth contributes so much to that. I have never tried it at my ripe ole age of 52, but having 5 daughters have seen good kids get a wiff of it, and get hooked immediately. So many young kids. It must be some powerful stuff that has the best "feel good feeling" no one has ever experienced. Its not just teenagers either, its grown adults. Somehow try it in their 40s and then loose everything, house, spouse, children, job. All ages let this drug take over and from what I read its a hard one to overcome and its in and out of rehab continually trying to do so. Its the devil's makings that is without a doubt and has brought alot of people that might otherwise be contributing members of society down to nothing.

Friends and family of victims, either murdered or the suspect. Remember something please, that this is a news article with comments. There are things going to be said good and bad about all parties, and maybe about the suspect or victims family and friends. As "lost" says up above the whole group was involved in pot and then went on over to meth and that is when the problems started. WE ALL know that just by reading the article and looking at this mans picture. You can see on his face his meth use. As these things repeat themselves almost exactly by meth users, "us commenters" can pretty much just lay out what probably happened from that, and then add the article, the police information from online or their charges, and we probably have it 75% right. ITs all because we who read the paper see these things happen over and over again, just like wrecks on our freeways, its the same stories over and over again, and us who read the paper on a daily basis read it all. Unfortunately these were two sweet little boys at one time until Meth got ahold of them, and basically ended both of their lives, with death as a lifetime jail sentence is a death unto itself. No one here in comments means to be directly mean to anyone or pick on anyone, its expressing our thoughts on a topic, and it starts with a main theme as always, and in this one its METH. :/ Its our frustrations with these needless deaths that make us speak out.
