Suspect Arrested in Failed Carjacking Attempt

A 44-year-old Hemet man was arrested Friday night in the Temecula Ridge Apartment complex.

A woman driving near Temecula Ridge Apartments on Friday night had her keys stolen during an attempted carjacking, and police arrested a suspect that had run into the apartment complex, according to authorities.

Temecula police responded to the attempted carjacking at 6:45 p.m. and set up a perimeter in the 42000 block of Moraga Road. The woman told officers that a man tried to force her out of her vehicle, then ran into the Temecula Ridge complex after he took her keys, according to police.

Officers detained several subjects after establishing a perimeter. One of the subjects, 44-year-old Alex Cooper of Hemet, was identified as a suspect and arrested at 8:31 p.m. for suspicion of felony attempted carjacking.

Cooper was booked into Southwest Detention Center on $60,000 bail. He is due in court on March 6.
