Suspected Burglar On The Prowl In Temecula

Police are seeking the public's help in finding the suspect who is described "as a white or Hispanic male, 18-20 years old, approximately 5'10" with a thin build, and shaggy brown hair."

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a suspected burglar who invaded one residence and attempted to break into another Monday morning.

According to a report from Sgt. Steve Fredericks of the Temecula Police Department, the alleged burglar struck around 4:30 a.m. in the 32000 block of Corte Carmela and then again about an hour later in the 41000 block of Corte Lara. The two areas are about a mile apart, the sergeant reported.

The first break-in was unsuccessful: The suspect had attempted to enter the occupied home through an unlocked side gate and an unlocked rear door and window, but fled after he made noise that alerted the homeowner, Fredericks reported.

In the second incident, the victim, who was alone in the home, awoke to find a man entering the bedroom.

“The suspect ordered the victim to stay in bed while demanding cash and stealing several property items before fleeing the residence,” the sergeant reported. “Due to darkness, the victim could only describe the suspect as a white or Hispanic male, 18-20 years old, approximately 5'10" with a thin build, and shaggy brown hair.”

Deputies conducted a search and canvassed the neighborhoods, but were unable to locate the suspect, according to Fredericks.

“Forensic evidence was recovered from the scene, and this remains an active, ongoing investigation,” he reported.

Fredericks encouraged residents to lock doors and windows at night before going to sleep.

“Any suspicious or abnormal neighborhood activities should be promptly reported to local law enforcement,” he said.
