Violent Crime Down in Temecula

The number of violent crimes decreased 41 percent in 2010 compared to the previous year.

The violent crime rate in Temecula decreased by 41 percent from 2009 to 2010, according to the FBI.

The Uniform Crime Report, which shows every crime reported in every city in the U.S., was released on Monday.

The number of violent crimes in 2009 was 126. That number waned to 74 in 2010, according to the report.

The number of forcible rapes dropped from 14 in 2009 to only three in 2010. The number of robberies dropped from 59 to 42; the number of aggravated assaults dropped from 52 to 27.

The number of some nonviolent crimes dropped, but only slightly.

Property crimes dropped from 2,370 to 2,351; burglaries dropped form 576 to 535; auto theft dropped from 220 to 174, according to the report.

The number of a few crimes increased slightly. The number of murders, for example, increased from one to two. The number of larceny-thefts went from 1,574 to 1,642, and the number of arsons went from four to five, according to the report.
