When's The Next DUI Checkpoint in Temecula?

Sheriff's officials have announced an upcoming DUI/driver's license checkpoint in the city.

Temecula police officers will staff a DUI/driver's license checkpoint during the July 4 holiday weekend, it was announced this week.

The operation will be held at an undisclosed location in Temecula on Saturday, July 5, according to Sgt. Joe Greco.   It's slated to begin at 9 p.m. and run through 3 a.m. Sunday.

"DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence," the sergeant said in a news release.  "Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public."

Funding for the checkpoint comes from state and federal grants, he said.
