Woman Accused of Swindling Nonprofit

She allegedly stole a laptop computer and a trip to New York from the Boys and Girls Club.

A former employee of the was accused of stealing from the nonprofit organization.

Crystal Marie Hoyes, 27, of Menifee, was charged with felony embezzlement stemming from the alleged theft of a laptop computer and a trip to New York, according to sheriff's Investigator David Gorlicki.

The club noticed the laptop missing and reported the theft in January, the investigator wrote in the warrant.

The laptop was a prize in an auction, but nobody bid on it.

Hoyes allegedly stole another auction prize: a four-day trip for four to New York. She conned the agency into booking the trip for her, her boyfriend and her parents under the pretense the tickets were for her, according to the warrant.

Investigators found the missing laptop in Hoyes' home in January, according to the warrant.
