Alleged Temecula Hit & Run Suspect Bails Out

Sonia Gonzalez, 44, was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run with injury, as well as DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher.

A Murrieta woman suspected of leaving the scene after causing injuries to a pregnant woman while driving drunk in Temecula was out on $75,000 bail Friday.

Sonia Gonzalez, 44, was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run with injury, as well as DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher.

She was released on bail Thursday and was ordered back to court Dec. 19.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Nathan Baer, the crash occurred on the northbound Interstate 15, coming from eastbound Rancho California Road, about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect was driving a Cadillac Escalade and when the SUV drove up on a Pontiac G6 stopped for traffic in a far right lane, the Escalade rearended the Pontiac, sending it into a pickup truck, Baer told Patch.

The driver of the car is seven months pregnant, Baer said.

When the Escalade left the scene, the driver of the pickup followed it to a gas station near a grocery store on Margarita and Winchester roads, Baer said.

"The driver of the truck detained the driver @ Winn Co. until CHP arrival," Baer told Patch.

A predator, KB? It's a far stretch to conclude that someone who is alleged DUI is also a predator. And what's up with the "I'd bet she is a realtor" comment? It has nothing to do with the story and makes no sense. Are you a realtor too, and you're just trying to bad-mouth your competition?
Lola October 27, 2012 at 03:35 PM
Jennifer; so agree! KB, That was a rude comment; I'd bet she's a Realtor. The only reason I posted the question is because I believe I have had contact with her in the past. It's interesting how quickly ones world can fall apart based on one simple stupid decision; to drink and drive. But what disturbs me is that she fled, that is not stupidity, that's lack of character!
CC October 27, 2012 at 08:40 PM
This is my first time posting on Patch and now I am doing it because the comment "I bet she is a realtor" and "I bet she is a con artist as well" made me very angry. I am a local temecula realtor and I am not a con artist. There are a lot of wonderful realtors who are like all of us, making a living doing our job so we can raise our family. I would never ever con anyone or do anything to make an extra dollar. Realtors are servicers doing what we are licensed to do and I will tell you, it is a very difficult job. Most the time we are working for free. There are con artist in every field, its the person, not the title.
TVOR October 27, 2012 at 09:43 PM
Way to hijack a thread dude. If it is that important to you how about writing a blog instead of posting unrelated stuff in this story?
tom jones October 27, 2012 at 11:57 PM
I just have to say CC you are a fool. Anyone that wants to make 10,000 dollars on 1 deal that they didnt really do anything for is a con artist. I call a spade a spade, you can get up on your soap box and try to get people that work hard every day to believe you if you want.
Gandhi October 28, 2012 at 12:15 AM
Wow, some of those comments are totally out of line!! As an ex-realtor myself, I can tell you I worked my a** off to get deals closed, you people have NO idea apparently. We use our own money to move through a deal, do all our own marketing, and if the deal falls through, we're SOL and cant recoup a dime of our money spent on clients. I've scrubbed toilets out because clients homes were so filthy and unshowable, spent 3 hours on the phone with a woman in Illinois explaining the entire 15 page contract to her, line by line, when I had 103 fever, nearly been run over trying put up and take down signs for open houses, nearly been raped, had dogs attack me, meanwhile having to spend thousands of my money to stay in the various professional organizations required, going to many morning meetings, having to stay abreast of the latest laws, contracts, forms etc. I just can't believe you guys would have the gall to say realtors don't earn their pay!! OR, that THIS WOMAN was a realtor! Most Realtors are very professional and conscientious of what they are doing at ALL times, they have to be, their business depends on it. Next time, dont go making ignorant remarks about people like this.
Dee October 28, 2012 at 12:28 AM
I once met a realtor who worked from sunrise to sunset. Hardly had any free time. I know you all earn your stripes. I've seen it myself.
Lola October 28, 2012 at 01:56 AM
Well said Gardensziner. That stupid remark was lost likely made by someone who have no idea what being a real estate agent is really like. I am an agent and I can attest to everything you said. Often times when all is said and done on a transaction (after cleaning out toilets, putting trash cans away, mowing lawns, making repairs etc) we don't even make enough to make it worth it. Some people are so ignorant to think its easy money. They are the fools that get into the business and quickly get out again when they find out HOW tough it is to be a Realtor. And besides, this totally got off topic because of some idiot remark! It doesn't matter what this woman is, character is character.
Sara October 28, 2012 at 02:12 AM
Would just like to say thank you for all the prayers. I am the woman that was in the accident. Baby and myslef are doing fine. Had to go to the hospital that evening for few hours of monitoring and some meds for irritated uterus but all and all am very lucky to only have some bumps and bruises. I would also like to say that I am very grateful that the man in the truck was present and did go after the driver of the SUV. If not for him she would have not been caught and held responsible for her actions. She will have a long road ahead of her and will be dealing with this for many years to come. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and children if she has any. They too will be deeply affected by her actions that night.
sam shepperd October 28, 2012 at 02:40 AM
Kudos for the apprehender here too. Sometimes the cops just can't be there when things like this happen, and it's citizens who instantly assume deputization that make all the difference. I'm not usually a hang-em-high type person. But this kind of vehicular manslaughter is getting way too common and penalties have to be enforced to the letter of the law.
LBV Collins October 28, 2012 at 03:16 PM
I agree, Lola. KB's comment was rude. And it looks like KB's comment was deleted. (Glad to see that Patch is on top of things, removing inappropriate comments.)
LBV Collins October 28, 2012 at 03:30 PM
Graciously stated, Sara. And I'm VERY glad to hear that you and your baby are okay.
CC October 28, 2012 at 05:13 PM
Sara, thank God you and your baby are well. We are on this earth to help eachother and pray for one another. Even people who do the wrong.
AmericanMom October 28, 2012 at 06:10 PM
Sara, I'm truly thankful that you and your baby are both doing well. You are blessed.
Bridget E. Johnson October 28, 2012 at 07:54 PM
@ The Republican~ You are nothing but a nut and your venomous lies are going to catch up to you someday soon! Can't wait to read that story here on Patch.
Bridget E. Johnson October 28, 2012 at 07:58 PM
Sara.... I am relieved to hear not only are you doing well, but the baby too! Prayers for you both on the rest of your pregnancy. And btw: very well said for the woman who decided to make a bad choice.... it will affect her family as well. :(
Fauntleroy Murphy October 29, 2012 at 03:41 PM
The only thing you said I don't agree with is "using my own money". Being a realtor is owning your own business and your own destiny. Every small business owner uses their own money and has risk involved. The realtors who really make it big in the industry are the ones who use their "business" money to promote the sales of their listed homes. The ones who struggle are the ones who "use their own money" instead of "Investing" their own money. If you are a realtor and can't afford to fund the investment in your business then pick another field.
Fauntleroy Murphy October 29, 2012 at 03:44 PM
Sara, It's people like you that make this valley the greatest place on earth to live. I am so glad you and your baby are doing well.
Cindy October 29, 2012 at 08:17 PM
As god would state " If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone" So don't judge someone for their sin we are all sinners in different ways.

THE REAL Anita Drink October 29, 2012 at 09:45 PM
Cindy, I'll judge you because you don't have the respect or education to capitalize 'God'... twice!
Dave Peters October 30, 2012 at 01:47 AM
Couldn't agree more Sam. This isn't a slam at officers, but in a lot of cases they are simply the clean up crew after the problem has happened. More people need to be like that truck driver & be proactive when they see crimes happen. Thank God the perp was caught. But even more important, thank God Sara wasn't hurt worse.
CC October 30, 2012 at 02:48 AM
Wow, that is very mature, no wonder our kids are not learning to respect opinions.
AmericanMom October 30, 2012 at 02:54 AM
Hey Cindy, The bible also states, "an eye for an eye..." #just saying. Let's follow Sara's lead. She is unbelieveably gracious and empathetic.

@Republican/ Gorilla aka R.H. ~ Looks like once again you were deleted. Hmmmmmmm..... how amusing. I also find it ironic that it being "Bullying Prevention Awareness Month" you show your true colors in setting a great example of how a bully acts in the adult forum. YES once again you take the cake in being a BIG BULLY. *Bullying may be defined as the activity of repeated, aggressive behavior intended to hurt another person, physically or mentally. I hope you get reamed for slander (*slander n. oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another which untruth will harm the reputation of the person defamed.) You have finally hit an all time low and had nothing you could really use against Mr. Randon Lane..... so you had to come up with this BS? Too bad you have to try to come up with new email address and new names to hide behind so that you can continue to come onto the Patch to declare your insanity and rude behavior. I feel for your parents..... I am sure they are real proud of your behavior. (Sarcastically said) :/
The Republican October 30, 2012 at 07:05 PM
@Bridget E. Johnson What venomous lies? By the way I am not worried in the least about any type of attacks here on the Patch or otherwise. Those that approach me nicely get niceness back. Those that attack me will get the Pitbull version of me and trust me they don't want that.
Brenda November 06, 2012 at 09:55 PM
Sara, thank you for replying here and letting us know you and baby are well. I am very happy to hear that. Cudos to the guy in the truck who went and got this lady. I absolutely cannot tolerate drunks, especially ones who are ignorant enough to drive. You did this city and Sara a great service getting this "lady" (for lack of a nice word) locked up. To the police who always go to so much work, investigating, getting torn up chasing people, heck you name it, and to have them bail out in a few hours(not this chick in particular) or the bail is so low a 5 yr old has enough in their piggy bank to bail Mom out. You all get no respect after an investigation, all paperwork taken to the DA and either they plea it out with the accused or the Judge does, or gives a sentence that he might not have even interrupted his lunch to give. To realtors. Yes there are some shystie ones like in any profession. You say they make 10k on a deal dude up at the top here, but they may only make that 2 or 3 times a year. That is not even enough to live on huney. There are so many realtors from the boom years ago that they run over each other showing houses. Competition is horrible. So your comments are untrue. Cindy you must be related to the drunk "lady" who hit Sara, because you never see anyone defend a drunk. Thanks LBV, and yes my grandson is almost 4 now and a wonderful handful for this ole gal!! Bridget where in the world did that come from? Out of the blue for sure.

@ Brenda: you said Bridget where in the world did that come from? Out of the blue for sure. Just wanted to let you know my comment above was responding to someones inappropriate post that was deleted. So it didn't come out of nowhere... When people post things they can delete their own post or three different people can tag it inappropriate and it automatically gets deleted :)
Brenda November 29, 2012 at 09:47 PM
Ahh I get ya Bridget. I see that sometimes where I get the comment in my email but when I go to the threat its not there. LOL I should learn to delete my posts! Or at least some of them.
