Woman Convicted of Anza Murder

Angela May Shaver, 46, was convicted today in the murder of Paul "Pete" Cline, who was stabbed and dumped on the side of a road in Anza.

A woman was convicted today of murdering an Anza man and dumping his body on a roadside.

Angela May Shaver, 46, was found guilty by a jury at the Southwest Justice Center in French Valley in the stabbing death of Paul "Pete" Cline.

The victim was killed at his home at 36990 Old Carey Road sometime between Feb. 14 and March 5 and dumped in the hills nearby. A codefendant, Chris Darrel Duve, 31, and released from jail, according to court records.

The defendants were living on Cline's property on an RV in the sprawling, rural region east of Temecula at the time of the murder.

Shaver, Duve and another man not accused in the trial named Vincent "Wolf" Valdez were stealing money from Cline's bank account by writing bad checks to Valdez, the prosecutor argued during the trial.

, but did not point the finger at any of the people, probably because he considered the three his friends, according to Blaine Hopp of the District Attorney's Office.

Cline eventually confronted the trio, and , Hopp argued.

, or he would kill them next, according to Duve's defense attorney, Stephen Sweigart.

The three then dumped the body in a remote area, and . When a firefighter finally came looking for the victim, Shaver told him Cline moved away, and she was renting his home.
Shaver is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 17.
