$189,000 Jefferson Avenue Traffic Study Approved

City officials hope the study will find ways to increase mobility along Jefferson Avenue. The consultant's job is to find out how it can be done. The plan aims to increase mobility on Jefferson Avenue and includes more public transit.

A $189,493 study on improving transportation on Jefferson Avenue got the green light.

The City Council agreed to hire a consulting firm for transportation issues at a Tuesday meeting at the .

The planning department recommended the city hire Fehr & Peers, a consulting company, according to a staff report prepared by Dale West.

The consultant will help the planning department build its Multimodal Transportation Plan for the Jefferson Avenue corridor, the report stated.

The Jefferson Avenue corridor is a sixteen-mile stretch of land that goes through four cities. It starts at Highway 79 in Temecula and ends in Lake Elsniore.

The plan aims to increase mobility through Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar, according to the report.

"The overall plan will enable the cities of Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar to develop smart growth opportunities by utilizing multimodal options and reducing transportation demand through better community design," West wrote.

The plan will also establish a vision that will guide land use descisions, infrastructure improvements, design and economic development activities for the Jefferson corridor, according to West.

Caltrans is helping fund the expense as part of their Community Based Transportation Planning Grant.

These types of grants are made available to cities and counties only. They are intended for mulit-juristicions and they require a lead agency in order to enter into contract.
