'Beware the Fiscal Cliff:' Local Democrats Plan Rally in Support of Obama

A local "Beware the Fiscal Cliff" gathering is tentatively scheduled to take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at the corner of Margarita and Winchester roads in Temecula.

A rally in support of President Barack Obama's efforts in the face of the so-called impending federal "fiscal cliff" is being planned for Friday in Temecula.

The event is being headed up by a local chapter of Organizing for America (OFA) volunteers and the Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County.

"As we settle down after the election, and finish up our holiday functions, we shouldn't forget that the Congress still has not resolved the current 'crisis,'" said rally organizer Kathy Katz. "The President needs our support as he tries to make sure the 98 percent making under $250,000 do not suffer because Republicans won't commit to retaining Bush Tax Cuts without retaining tax cuts for the top 2 percent."

President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were scheduled to meet Friday afternoon at the White House with Congressional representatives from both sides of the aisle in an attempt to continue negotiations as the Jan. 1, 2013 deadline approaches, according to news reports.

In Temecula, the gathering was tentatively scheduled to take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28 at the corner of Margarita and Winchester roads. Attendees should park in the WinCo parking lot at 40435 Winchester Road, organizers said.

The two groups said they will proceed with the rally if enough volunteers step up to participate.

Those willing to join in were asked to contact Kathy Katz at 909-227-1553 or kkatz@iinet.com.

It is so sad that our state has allowed this to happen. I remember a few years ago when the TVUSDRead More budget was horrible and teacher's were given less than $100.00 to budget their classrooms. Teachers are allowed to ask for donations but can no longer "require" students to bring in supplies for the classroom. PARENT'S need to step up to the plate!! After all these are OUR children and it's our responsibility to help them get the best education they can get. As long as people have the "entitlement" attitude with the public school system I can only see thing getting worse and not better. Please parents, help your teacher's. It does not take a fortune to pick up something extra for the classroom while buying your own child school supplies. Just my opinion!!

A skating rink with ice is more desirable. Temecula and Murrieta have lots of kids involved in iceRead More skating and hockey, but have to drive to Escondido or Riverside to participate.
