Chaparral Student Says Soldiers Have The Right To Tattoo

The following is a letter to the editor from Chaparral student Sky White.

I am contacting the Temecula Patch and writing a letter to the editor as a local high school student. I attend Chaparral High School as a senior and we are doing a project entitled "Participating in Government." I am to address a relating story of government that has been posted on the Temecula Patch website. The story I chose was "The Army Has a Staffing Problem – Everyone Is Inked."

Everyone has their own opinions on the topic of tattoos, as do I, but in this particular case, dealing with our soldiers, I think our own opinions should stay out of the matter. I believe that our soldiers have earned the right to tattoo their bodies however they please. They fought and risk their lives just so we can have the opportunity to have our own opinion and discuss topics such as this. I believe our soldiers should be able to express themselves free such as we do; also tattoos can easily be covered up with by a soldier's uniform and multiple other ways.

Sincerely,
Sky White
