City Takes Over Land from Redevelopment Agency

The City Council continues to unwind the Temecula Redevelopment Agency, one of 425 being shut down statewide.

The Temecula City Council voted tonight to accept all real estate owned by the soon-to-be disbanded Temecula Redevelopment Agency.

The vote to accept the property was one of three items on the consent calendar pertaining to the redevelopment agency, which passed with a 5-0 blanket vote with no comment from the public or from the council members.

As part of the resolution, five separate properties were deeded back to the City of Temecula:

The council also complied with a state order to certify that the city hasn’t forgiven any debts or financial obligations of the Redevelopment Agency, and to assume the agency’s housing functions.

The local agency is one of 425 being disbanded after a recent State Supreme Court decision affirmed Sacramento’s right to shut down redevelopment agencies statewide.

Temecula’s Redevelopment Agency Director, Mike Naggar, says the local RDA was in much better shape than others across the state.  He told The Californian last week that most of the city employees who worked on agency projects were part of the city’s Planning Department, meaning that no layoffs would be needed by the agency.
