Final Quarry Vote Uncertain

Officials were unsure what would happen at tomorrow's meeting on Liberty Quarry.

What the Riverside County Planning Commission plans to do during tomorrow's meeting on the quarry was unknown, an official said.

Granite Construction asked the commission to postpone the vote that will decide the fate of the quarry, though planning department staff was unable to recommend the commissioners approve that request, Carolyn Syms Luna, a planning director, told the Press-Enterprise.

The company said in a letter it needs more time to talk to the Pechanga tribe about a piece of legislation it sponsored that would prohibit projects -- such as the quarry -- from going near Indian sacred sites.

The meeting is set for 3 p.m. at the County Administrative Center, 4080 Lemon St. in Riverside. The commission could vote on the quarry or put off the vote.
