Gas Prices Still Climbing

Prices increased for the 8th day in a row

It seemed too good to be true when the price of gas kept going down. For more than two months, it was down, down, down. But now it's going up, up, up.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Inland Southern California rose today for the eighth consecutive day, increasing 1.6 cents to $3.731. The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties has increased 7.6 cents over the past eight days, including four-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

That's 7 cents more for a gallon in your tank than the price a week ago. But if your outlook is a half-tank-full instead of a half-tank-empty, the price is still 5.9 cents lower than one year ago.

The rising pump prices are the result of higher crude oil prices, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

``Other parts of the country have been experiencing price increases for a few weeks in response to higher oil prices, and Southern California gas prices are now starting to reflect those increased costs,'' Spring said.

``Local drivers briefly saw some of the lowest prices of the year last week,
but prices are now rising by a penny a day or more in many cities.'' The rise in crude oil prices have been attributed in part to Middle East tensions.
