Gun Control: ‘The Fight Is Not Over’

Despite an April 17 Senate vote that fell short of advancing the issue of universal background checks, local OFA supporters are vowing to keep the debate alive.

The battle to expand background checks on gun owners is not over, say some advocates. Despite an April 17 Senate vote that fell short of advancing the issue of universal background checks, local Organizing For Action supporters are vowing to keep the debate alive.

On Tuesday, a small group of OFA supporters turned out at Rep. Duncan Hunter’s Temecula office to present him with petitions signed by his constituents. The signatures represent those who disagree with the Senate vote.

Although the turnout at Hunter’s office was not large, OFA supporter Thetis Pressley said it was good practice for the ongoing fight ahead.

“The vast majority of Americans are in favor of universal background checks, and yet the Senate did not vote the voice of their constituents, Pressley said. 

“The fight is not over,” she continued.
