Hearing Process Nears End

A hearing that should decide the fate of Liberty Quarry was in its final phases today.

 

A end of a hearing that will decide whether a mine will be permitted near Temecula was drawing near today.

The hearing began at 9 a.m. at the County Administration Building in Riverside. The crowd was split roughly in half by people opposing the quarry wearing orange hats and T-shirts, and people supporting the quarry wearing green.

This was a big change from previous hearings, during which the vast majority of the crowd was in orange.

The hearing began with comments from residents both for and against the project, which would dig a 135-acre mine on a site just south of Temecula.

The hearing was closed to public speakers around 11:30 a.m., since everybody who filled out a permission to speak form had been called, and the let Gary Johnson, the aggregate resources manager for Granite Construction, rebut the anti-quarry speakers.
