Jeffries Wins Legislator of the Year Award

Kevin Jeffries, R-Lake Elsinore, won the award for working to improve disaster preparedness and response.

Temecula's state assemblyman won an award for helping to improve emergency preparedness and disaster response.

Kevin Jeffries, R-Lake Elsinore, won the California State Firefighters' Association "Legislator of the Year" award during the association's annual legislative reception.

"We are proud to present Assemblyman Jeffries with our Legislator of the Year award," said the association's president, Kevin Nida. "...His personal history as a volunteer firefighter has given him insights and a passion for public safety that has benefited our state greatly."

The association represents more than 24,000 paid, volunteer, military and industrial firefighters, members of the California Department of Forestry, United States Forest Disaster Office, Office of Emergency Services Fire and Rescue Division, State Fire Marshal's Office, State Fire Service and Training Program and California state-employed firefighters.

"I'm very honored to be recognized by the California State Firefighters Association," Jeffries said in a news release.

Jeffries, a former volunteer firefighter, was touched be the award, he said.

"I admire what these men and women do every day for our communities. I spent 29 years of my life as a volunteer firefighter, so being honored by the organization representing our front-line firefighters means a great deal to me," he said.

In his legislative career, he put effort into maintaining emergency services, he said. "I believe that maintaining essential public safety services is the first responsibility of the government."

The assemblyman represents Western Riverside County and Northern San Diego County, including the communities of Jurupa, Riverside, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Murrieta, Temecula, Fallbrook, Bonsall, Valley Center and Julian.
