Marines Accused Of Urinating On Taliban Corpses To Face Court-Martial

Lt. Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, who was based in Camp Pendleton, led the investigation of the case.

Two Marines accused of urinating on deceased Taliban fighters last summer and for posting unauthorized images of the casualties will face a trial by court-martial, the Department of defense released Monday.

The incident happened on or about July 27, 2011.

Two Marine staff sergeants, Joseph W. Chamblin and Edward W. Deptola, have charges related to the incident and other charges including being derelict in their duties by failing to properly supervise junior Marines, failing to require junior Marines to wear their personal protective equipment, failing to stop and report the misconduct of junior Marines, failing to report the negligent discharge of a grenade launcher, and failing to stop the indiscriminate firing of weapons, the Department of Defense stated.

Both Marines are assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
