Murrieta Hot Springs Road to Get $1.3 Million Makeover

The board of supervisors recently approved the first steps in a project to resurface part of the thoroughfare in the unincorporated area near Temecula.

A stretch of road in unincorporated Murrieta less than a mile long will get a $1.3 million makeover later this year so long as everything continues on track.

The Transportation & Land Management Agency requested approval of plans and to advertise the bidding process at the June 4 board of supervisors meeting, which was approved.

A portion of Murrieta Hot Springs Road approximately eight-tenths of a mile long– between Winchester Road and Calistoga– is set to be upgraded, according to county documents.

"New striping, pavement markings, and reflective markers will be installed," an agenda item for the board of supervisors explains.  "The project will include sidewalk replacement due to lifted and cracked sidewalk on teh adjacent Sky Canyon Drive."

Construction is expected to begin in "late summer" this year, to be completed in phases lasting a total of three months.  The road will remain open during the work.

Now that the board has authorized the transportation department to advertise for project bids, the bidding process will open on June 26, documents indicated.  The project number assigned to the work is: B8-0669.

The total anticipated cost of $1,336,000 will be funded through proposition  1B (state bond) funds, according to county documents.

"A future project will provide the median with low-water use plants and drip irrigation system," documents added.  "These improvements to the median landscaping are expected to improve the life of the new pavement due to the reduction of watering that will be needed."
