Public Money Used To Fund Invitation-Only George W. Bush Event In Riverside County

At least $80,000 in public money was used to help pay for a invitation-only event featuring George W. Bush and hosted by the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG), The Press-Enterprise is reporting.

The Press-Enterprise obtained records for the event, which show $220,000 in private donations were also used for funding.

WRCOG's 22nd annual General Assembly held June 13 was closed to the media and little information was forthcoming on how the event was being paid for until today's news report.

Last month's event drew some criticism, and protesters converged outside the Cabazon venue where the meeting was held to speak out against Bush.

Seventeen cities, two water districts and the Riverside County government belong to the council. Among the local cities that belong to WRCOG are Canyon Lake, Corona, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Temecula, and Wildomar.
