Riverside County Officials to Observe 12-Year Anniversary of 9/11

Officials will gather at the flag poles outside the County Administrative Center in downtown Riverside for the 20-minute ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Riverside County supervisors, public safety officials and military personnel will gather Wednesday to remember the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"On the 12-year anniversary of 9/11, we gather to remember the 2,977 victims," Board of Supervisors Chairman John Benoit said. "We are never going to forget the people who died that day and the service personnel who have served since that time fighting the war on terror."

Benoit will deliver brief remarks and lay a ceremonial wreath. A 21-gun salute is planned, followed by the playing of taps and the lowering of flags to half staff.

Representatives from each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces are expected to be on hand.
